Delicious, well prepared Mexican food at great prices. The freshly-made corn tortillas are fantastic. I've had an omelet, chilaquiles, and chili rellenos here, and they're all great choices. My kids love their burritos. A must stop if you are passing through Cedar City.

Yummy food, great salsa bar! Booth coulda been a little more comfy on the butt, but that's not the most important thing. Try the mango salsa! Fun decor and lotsa Mexican swag for the folks that like that Tijuana flair :)

Had dinner on this place with boyfriend and his family. Service was great and food was good too. Had some burritos which was really good.

This is the slowest place in Cedar. Waited about an hour for the food. Our drink order was taken a few times and no one brought it until the 3rd person asked us. The only good server didn't even work there... It was a kid helping her mom. The food was great. The dishes had good portions. The salsa was spicy and great!

To start we were served one basket of chips and salsa for a party of five. We received another after asking for them with some attitude from our server. Should have stayed with one basket as they were stale and bland. Salsa was good though. After ordering and receiving our food we brought a mistake to our servers attention. She said "ok" and disappeared for a few minutes. We caught her attention as she walked by and reminded her that my daughter wanted cheese sauce on her enchilada instead of the red sauce it came with. She huffed and took her plate to the window. In plain sight of our table the kitchen just dumped some cheese sauce over the same plate and she brought it back to use. My chicken chimichanga was acceptable but nothing to write home about. At checkout I took my ticket to the cashier. It was the same ticket that she took our order on and there was barely any free space on it. I asked what the total was she slapped the ticket and shook her finger at our total which was written sideways on the ticket. I was taken aback and said "alright then". She gave me a goth look and took my card. Never said thank you or anything. If you have to have Mexican food in Cedar City you'll do just as well going to Taco Bell.

Good food. The wait staff is a bit inconsistence. I I waited for a while for a menu and a waiter. The margaritas are great--strong! My meal was nice (cheese enchilada), the price was better. Solid pick.

This is as close as you can get to authentic mexican food in Cedar City. They give you free chips and salsa (one time only) but they also have a nice salsa bar. The menu is very large and has a bunch of options, including those for vegetarians. The unsweetened iced tea was really bad though, It would be awesome if they brewed it themselves but that's not very common in Utah.

While staying in Cedar City we realized too much time had passed since our last Mexican meal. The great Yelp reviews brought us to Lupita's. It's a sweet little place with friendly service, a salsa bar, fair prices, and good chips and salsa food. The chili rellenos were especially good with a delicious sauce. If we find ourselves passing through Cedar City again, we will definitely stop here.

Fantastic food. Great beef enchiladas. Staff are very attentive and nice too. Salsa bar is unlike any I've seen, hope to come back soon!

I love this place!! It's so good and chips and salsa are yummy! We love coming to this place, delicious food, servers are either off or on but other than that good food :)

Mediocre Mexican food... But it's Utah, so what else can one expect? Ground Beef Enchiladas - probably the best thing we had on the table. It wasn't drowned in sauce, so one can actually taste the corn tortilla and meat. Pork Carnitas Taco - waaaaaaay overcooked Cheese Relleno - oh god, so bad! All you can taste is scrambled eggs from the batter, but once you pull out just the Relleno pepper, it's very good Mixed fajitas - tasty but waaaaay overcooked Whole Fried Tilapia - first they said it was going to take 20 minutes to cook... 30 minutes later it arrived, tasty but like everything else it was waaaay overcooked Guacamole - don't expect fresh avocados, it's all packaged guac-goo Salsa - pretty damn tasty for Utah Service - very sweet and friendly, but in no way efficient. We received 1/2 our meal, and by the time the rest of the meal arrived, the first half was cold. Some people like room temperature food... I do not

I finally found somewhere solid in Cedar City to eat! If you are in the mood for authentic, tasty and affordable Mexican food then Lupita's absolutely offers that. Upon walking in, the dining area looked spacious an a nice woman told us to sit where ever would like. We chose a booth and it turned out to be very comfy and roomy. Our server quickly came over to great us and go over the daily specials. She then told us chips and salsa would be on the way, but to help ourselves to their free salsa bar for more of a variety. The chips and salsa they brought to the table tasted very fresh and even though the salsa was a been thin it still had plenty of fresh chunky veggies and peppers. This salsa was way too spicy for me, but my hubby couldn't get enough. I decided to head over to the salsa bar and wasn't disappointed. They not only had plenty of fresh salsas to chose from, but also had different peppers and veggies. Next to the salsa bar you will find complimentary rice and beans that you will want to try too! The beans were very good. I will have to try the rice next time. I ordered a bowl of "Tortilla Soup" and a single mini "Carnitas Taco" for my meal. The tortilla soup was SO good! The broth had such good flavor and it had plenty of tortilla strips and other veggies in it. The best part was they weren't stingy with the fresh avocado they put in it as well on top. Most places would give you just a couple smaller pieces and charge a lot more so I was very pleased with the nice big chunks and amount throughout the soup. The carnitas taco was something else Lupita's wasn't stingy on. The 2 fresh corn tortillas were stuffed and the carnitas had good flavor. My hubby ordered a "Carne Asada Burrito" that was huge! Our total was $14.72 which is cheap for homemade authentic Mexican food. We left full and satisfied and I will come back again! This is a locally owned and family operated business. I can tell by the way our server went over things with us and how they treated other customers that they genuinely are passionate about the type of food they are putting out and the service they provide and that means a lot. The restaurant is very clean. I visited the restroom and it was also very clean. Lupita's offers senior discounts and takes the starving students card. They also take phone orders if you want to pick up your food to-go. They are open 7 days a week. Mon - Thurs 10 am - 9 pm Fri - Sat - 10 am - 10 pm Sunday 10 am - 8 pm

I always get the chimichanga and enchilada. The food is always great and consistent. We bring our friends and family there while they visit and they have always been satisfied with their food.

This is a great place to stop for authentic Mexican food. Avoid the drive thru fast food Mexican options nearby Lupita's and just come here. Not only will it be cheaper but it will be made from scratch and tastes good. Our server was very friendly and went over all the daily specials with us. The chips and salsa were so good. The salsa was very fresh and very spicy. I could stop here just to get the chips and salsa to eat on the road. There was a free salsa bar but my wife checked that out while I just polished off the original salsa brought to the table. I ordered a carne asada burrito. It was smothered in nacho cheese sauce and had regular shredded cheese as well. The carne asada was tender and had great flavor. The burrito was huge and even with my big appetite had a hard time finishing it. the inside was very clean and this will be a regular stop when I am in Cedar City.

If you are reading this, there are two things that are probably true: 1- You are in Cedar City. 2- You are looking for Mexican food. If either, or preferably both, of these are true... then EAT HERE NOW! Lupita's is a find! I was super impressed with everything about this place. You can tell a lot about a Mexi place based on the chips and salsa. The chips here were house-made and warm... good start. The salsa was HOT and delicious! Perfect! I started perusing the menu and the prices were amazingly low. I ordered a beef burrito meal, but the waitress pointed out that one of the daily specials was a beef fajita burrito with rice and beans for less money than the shredded beef I was about to order. She recommended the green sauce, over the red, and I'm not one to argue with an expert. The steak fajitas were among the best I've ever had. The steak was well seasoned and expertly prepared. The rice and beans were flavorful and delicious. This Mexican food is autentica! I don't find myself in Cedar City more than 2 or 3 times a year, but I'm adding Lupita's to my list of can't miss restaurants!

They have the best menudo I've had in years. They were very busy, which is a good sign. Well worth the visit.

I am from Southern CA, so I know good Mexican food. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food at this restaurant. Not only delicious but it tasted authentic! I would recommend this place to anyone who lives in cedar city and any one passing through!

Great food, amazing shrimp enchiladas. Salsa bar has lots of good salsas including mango salsa. Mmm. Good. Also has a sample bean bar.

I been there many times because we have a house in Cedar City and my fiancee likes Mexican food. However, I really never liked this place. The food is dry and have no taste. The place is not very clean and sometimes the service isn't great. They keep the tips from the waitress. Don't waste your time going there, go to Brody's! That place is the best Mexican food I ever had.

    (2)
  • J F.

Service and food first time was good. Second time we found they were using Kraft Ranch dressing (they brought it out to our table) and the bottle was 6 MONTHS PAST EXPIRATION. No wonder people are complaining of getting sick after eating there.

  • Rick M.

Delicious food! A must when you're in the area! Stopped here on the way back from Bryce canyon and had the menudo, it was great, and the chimichanga was the best. The salsa bar was an added surprise.

  • Cindy P.

This place used to be good, we ate here weekly, but the owner/manager is horrible to her employees and now it's come back to bite her. All the good servers and cooks have left and now the place is in bad shape. Worse service I've ever had in my life. Slow, wrong orders etc. Bad food twice in a row, this place is going down hill fast and is very poorly managed to say the least. Too bad since this used to be one of the better places in Cedar!!

  • Blaine C.

Excellent food! Love the pork chimichangas! Reasonably priced and very fun decor! They have a tasty salsa bar with at time up to 10 different salsas, 3 types of beans, grilled onions and some veggies.. They serve Pepsi products which makes it even better! Try it, we love it and have not been disappointed over the 8 years we have been eating there!

  • Quinn R.

Great authentic Mexican food at a good price, this is one of our surprise favorites. You don't expect food this good in a strip mall, but somehow Lupita's does it. Good service and huge servings, there's nothing we didn't like about our evening there.

  • Ty F.

Yay, authentic Mexican in Cedar City -- woohoo! Love the food (had the enchiladas) and the salsa bar with so many choices. My bf had the margarita which looked normal sized (unlike some Utah restaurants which serve teensy drinks) and the chips were good too. Loved the mercado area in the front with all sorts of things for sale from earrings to ceramic piggy banks to Mexican sweets. Our waitress was so friendly, efficient and the food arrived quickly! Yum! This is now my go-to place for Mexican food while we're here! Scratch that, for lunch there are only two choices in Cedar City as far as I'm concerned -- Sonny Boys and Lupitas!

Being from Socal, it is difficult to find quality Mexican food anywhere else. While menu offered authentic dishes, the flavor was mediocre. We ordered Mexican Flag enchiladas and fish and carnitas tacos. The sauces were tasty but the meat was bland. The rice that was served along with it lacked flavor and was pretty broken up. If you're craving Mexican food and you're passing by Cedar City, it's decent place, but just don't expect to be wowed.

We were visitors in Cedar City, and went here at the recommendation of a local resident. We loved it. The food was delicious, the service friendly and quick, and the prices reasonable. I wish we didn't live so far away from it, because where we live we don't get Mexican food like this.

The decor is like a Mexican Cracker Barrel, the food is delicious and generous. The service can be slow, so get ready to chill out and don't show up starving. Enjoy!

I stopped here on my way to Las Vegas. I always stop in towns as I travel to try local Mexican restaurants. I go out of the way when traveling in Mexico, to get away from the Americanized Mexican restaurants. Lupitas is a true gem. I had a good feeling as I walked in the front door and it looked like swap meet. All kinds of little trinkets for sale. A serious gauge of any and all Mexican restaurants food quality is the salsa. Seems too simple? It has always worked. And Lupitas knows salsa. They have a whole salsa bar in fact. From the mild mango salsa and pico de gallo to the spicy green salsas and my personal favorite, a habanero salsa. All fresh made. Ever notice that combo plates at most places exclude higher end items like chimichangas, not here. Not only does one of the combos have a chimichanga, but instead of a wimpy cheese enchilada most often found in a combo platter, it was meat filled, just like the chimichanga. It had a homemade mole type sauce instead of the generic enchilada sauce. The price, same as all the other combos at about eleven dollars. I was very impressed by the overall selections on the menu, all the food was delicious. I'll make a several hour trip in the future to stop in for a meal and buy some salsa.

This is the address for the location across the street from the WalMart. We were down for the weekend and stopped here for dinner. I ordered a shredded beef burrito with enchilada sauce and the sis got a chicken chimichanga with red sauce. It was amazing how identical they looked. The chimis are not really fried much. But both were very tasty and the meat was a good consistency. The beef wasn't fatty or chunky. It was nice that you could order the entree without rice/beans as a 'side dish', as I wasn't hungry enough for the whole meal so was happy to save a couple of bucks. The restaurant is packed with decor. Everything Mexican they could find, as well as a few things that weren't but apparently were deemed festive enough to include (ie between each booth was a little pink and silver princess crown paper party favor thing!) Our server was initially pretty blunt and made it clear she was not in the mood to answer any questions, just hurry and give our orders already! But she must have been having a bad moment, because she practically gushed when she came back with our flan. Which brings me to the flan. Eh. Not great. I've only had it a few times in my life, but I don't think it's supposed to be lumpy and dry in the middle. Not a great flavor either. Oh well. Water was always full. Food came out quickly. And all in all, it was plenty of food for under $10.

  • Jim O.

Average at best. The margarita was too sour and had very little tequila and the triple sec/grand marnier wasn't to be found. The food was salty and pretty bland as well. The service was fair though. Not worth another visit.

  • Jan H.

We enjoyed the salsa bar with a manga salsa, pico de gallo, two habanero salsa's and a couple others- liked the variety. The fajita was fine and a little overpriced for what we got. Horchata was great- the only time my husband has liked the drink.

  • Marie C.

Decided to try based on Yelp reviews. Definitely a good decision! Food was really good & very reasonably priced! We tried the carne asada burrito enchilada style & cheese enchiladas dinner. Both great, enchilada sauces are yummy, especially the green! Would absolutely go here again.

Dynomite food, great atmosphere, and friendly staff. Had the sopes, which were killer, then we remembered the salsa bar and dinner turned sublime!

This place is the "real deal"! First, the service was outstanding, both in attitude and performance. Every time I got up to hit the salsa bar (more on that later), I returned to my booth to find my water glass refilled; I got up at least 5 times. The entire staff was eager to please and nice to talk with; they appreciated you eating at their restaurant. I noticed that the other diners' plates were really big and filled with food...good sign. The menu is extensive and I finally decided on the giant burrito filled with all the trappings and including chunky carnitas. Delicious and was unable to eat the whole thing. It was Monday and so enchiladas were discounted and I got a pair. Very tasty green and red chile sauces. Chips were complementary with tangy red sauce and one refill of the basket. Now, the Salsa Bar: 6-8 different bowls of salsa to sample for free with your meal, along with two types of beans. What a deal and what salsas! The mango based one was succulent and I wish I could have taken a gallon home with me to Colorado. The flavors were different to the point that you knew that they were homemade and not out of a can. A step above the normal fare. My comment card read "I wish that I wasn't heading home so quickly, I'd like to have a few more meals here!" Yes, it was that good. I brought some takeout menus back to the hotel where I was staying to leave in hopes that they may send patrons to this nice, homey, family restaurant. To hell with corporate "cardboard" food. Support local and individually-owned establishments of the U.S.A!!!! Try it and you won't be disappointed. I know good Mexican food and this IS good Mexican food....at unbelievable prices!!! If the winds blow me down I-15 and through Cedar City again, you can bet that I'll be stopping at Lupita's again on the south side of town.

In town briefly. Stopped at first restaurant we saw. Staff friendly. Service great! We were there in early afternoon to enjoy late lunch/early dinner. Food not up to par with true authentic Mexican cuisine such as in California. Too much cheese and not enough flavor.

We'd heard about a good Mexican restaurant in Cedar City and thought we'd try it out. I couldn't remember the name, so asking around, everyone said, "Lupitas!" We went and LOVED IT! FINALLY, a place that serves EXCellent rice that is NOT overdosed on salt. Hubby had an enchilada and taco with rice and beans. I had the fish tacos with rice and beans. Very well done. Hubby's was a bit spicy, but very good he said. My fish tacos were fanTAStic! Free chips and salsa were good, but the salsa was SO spicy, I just couldn't enjoy it. So, we checked out the salsa bar. I stumbled across a black colored salsa and LOVED IT! The waitress told me the name and said it's because every ingredient in it is toasted before making it. It was BRILLIANT! The staff is very friendly. The decor is authentic and not cheesy. The food is superb. Our meal cost a grand total of $20.22. Pretty good!

  • R S.

Killer traditional Mexican Food. Not the bland Utah Cafe Rio stuff. When they bring the chips and salsa to the table, ditch the salsa. Go to their salsa bar for the real deal salsa. The stuff they bring is the mild plain jane salsa. I had the Carnitas Dinner which was spot on. Carnitas was flavorful, tender, and they give you a big portion. Go for the corn tortillas. They make their own and it makes a huge difference. Rice and Beans were typical. Great fast service and the prices are spot on. Large enough place for big families. Cash, Credit Cards accepted.

Really good food it deserves 5 stars but it takes freaking forever to get it. So they get three stars for the service. Definitely recommend but just don't be in a hurry.

  • Tom W.

Plates were piping hot like left under massive heat lamps. The chili relleno sauce was like a gelatin. Tasted good but a but suspicious. I think the best was the salsa and chips before the meal. The salsa had some good heat and was flavorful. Get extra salsa for you entree

  • Eric P.

I saw a lot of 5 star reviews for this restaurant. So I figured I'd try to see if it lives up to the hype. So far I wasn't impressed. I say it was mediocre at its best. Its not bad but its not great either. I prefer other places in town. This place is not authentic Mexican food at all. Its more like North Carolina Mexican food, which isn't that great. I recommend checking out other places before stopping here. I'm from San Antonio, TX and they have amazing Mexican food there. I've tried Southern California and there's is good too but not like Texas.

    (2)
  • Doug D.

Great food, good service, reasonable price. This was some of the best authentic Mexican food I've ever had! I'm from Southern California (the other Mexico) and I eat a lot of Mexican food. I had been in Utah for a week craving some good stuff and finally found this place. Tasty tacos, enchiladas, chile rellenos, margaritas and a really nice salsa bar.

We were lured in by decent reviews and decided to stop on our way back from Bryce Canyon. Granted it was 5th of July holiday weekend they were moderately busy... not all the tables were full. We were seated promptly and got our beverages and chips in few minutes. However it took a while for a server to come by. We ordered food and waited waited waited and waited.... looking around at people next to us that were waiting and waiting and waiting. After 45 minutes and no sight of food I decided to walk out of the place. Waiter was rather apologetic since he didn't have any control over kitchen. However manager didn't seem to care at all... Advice: just go to Cafe Rio across the street for un-authentic but at least timely service.

Loved the food. Loved the service. Loved the decor. Salsa bar had many awesome choices. I had the veggie burrito with the red Lupita sauce and it was a perfect portion size. Also tried the tortilla soup (without cheese) and thoroughly enjoyed it! I highly recommend both! Also, I think the prices are really reasonable - great tasting inexpensive food!

Great salsa. I really like their rice and beans. Service is a bit slow. Going on a weekend can be really slow. Good food though. Nice decor

Stopped on the way back from Bryce. There were 6 of us eating and 3 gave Lupitas 5 stars and 3 gave it 4 stars. Bottom line this place rocks. Chile relleno was awesome, enchiladas fantastic and fajita burrito stellar. Give the place a try.

  • Marysol R.

This place is unorganized. We waited for almost an hour for our food. After 45 minutes, the waiter came to inform us that they had no tamales. We were already tired of waiting and decided to leave. When I brought it to the cashiers attention, that we were leaving without eating, she said that we couldn't get our food because too many people were coming there. Then why don't they hire more cooks?

    - Great prices on all of their food, vegetarian options, and al la carte items - Salsa bar included for free - Margarita's are tasty and not over priced - Service is fast and friendly - Atmosphere is really nice with the decor being very authentic - Open

Well, after a disappointing road trip day where we ended up stuck and miles away from out intended destination of Zion Ntl Park, we were in need of some good food. And we found it at this quaint Mexican food restaurant. Food was cheap and plentiful, and we had an adorable prepubescent server filling our chip bowl. I enjoyed the tortilla soup with chicken, while my companion opted for fish tacos. Make sure to stop by the salsa bar!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
